What is an Electric Air Heater?

An electric air heater converts electrical energy into controlled, forced-convection heat using finned tubular elements, for use with blowers and air handling units (AHUs). Generally supplied as a ductable assembly or with inlet and outlet transition pieces, these heaters are ideal for heating uncompressed air and integrate easily with HVAC, process, and drying systems.

FAQ

An electric air heater heats a forced-air stream for processes such as paint-shop air supply, curing, drying, baking, combustion-air preheat, and make-up air conditioning. Finned tubular elements transfer heat to air pushed by a blower or AHU, and the assembly integrates inline or via duct flanges with HVAC and process systems.
Outlet air temperature depends on airflow, kW rating, and element alloy. Telelec sizes each heater to the required temperature rise for the design airflow, up to the process limits set by the element sheath material. Higher-temperature duties use SS 321 or Incoloy 800 elements.
Yes. Where the installation is in a classified zone, Telelec supplies flameproof (Ex'd') air heaters and duct heaters certified for Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas, built to IS 2148 and IECEx flameproof standards, with control enclosures rated accordingly. However due consideration is to be made for VOCs (volatile organic compounds) present in the air stream.
Air heaters are controlled by contactor staging or by thyristor (SCR) panels for variable, near-continuous power control. They integrate with PID controllers, PLC, and building management systems, and include over-temperature cutouts and airflow interlocks for safe operation.
A duct (air) heater heats uncompressed air flowing through ductwork or an AHU using finned elements for low pressure drop. A circulation heater heats a fluid — air, gas, or liquid — passing through a closed vessel under pressure. Paint-shop and HVAC supply-air duties use duct air heaters.
